Animal Therapy Program

The Healing Power of Animals

"Stroking a pet is a wonderful feeling. But did you know that rabbits help children learn to read? That llamas bring down patients' blood pressure? Or that some dogs sense when a person needs emergency medical care--before the person does? With the help of such organizations as the Delta Society, millions of people have experienced the healing power of animals, where sound science, psychological and emotional healing and the wondrous synergy between humans and others in the animal world come together." --The Delta Society

Dog Therapy

Hospice of Central Michigan is implementing an Animal Therapy program for our clients. Not only does our new Medical Director, Dr. Stevens, have a trained therapy dog (Calvin), but we have also recently acquired two new volunteers who are long-tme therapy dog owners. We hope that our clients will take advantage of the wonderful, caring animals that we have to offer. These dogs are exceptionally well-trained and very experienced in visiting nursing homes and other healthcare facilities. Baxter, Boomer, Echo, Sheila, Piper, Breeze, and others offer a gentle furry presence and unconditional love to those who need it the most.

If anyone in the community feels that our dogs could be of assistance to someone you know who is ill or bed-bound, please give us a call at (989) 773-6137.
